CHINITSU & YAKUMAN

Pure Flush Yakuman Synergies & Firepower

1. Closed vs. Open Pure Flush (Score Efficiency)

Pure Flush (Chinitsu) is the highest-tier standard Yaku completed using a single suit. Although calling melds reduces its value by 1 Han (Kuuisagari), it maintains extraordinary scoring firepower.

  • Closed (Menzen) — Base 6 Han (7+ with Riichi)

    · Title & Points: Haneman to Baiman (Non-dealer: 18,000 ~ 24,000 / Dealer: 27,000 ~ 36,000)
    · Firepower: Adding Riichi, Tsumo, or just 1 Dora tile elevates it to Baiman (8+ Han). With compound Yaku, Sanbaiman or Kazoe Yakuman is well within reach.
  • Open (Called Chi/Pon) — Base 5 Han

    · Title & Points: Mangan to Haneman (Non-dealer: 8,000 ~ 12,000 / Dealer: 12,000 ~ 18,000)
    · Firepower: Calling melds guarantees a minimum of 5 Han (Mangan). Adding Tanyao or 1–2 Dora easily boosts the hand to Haneman or Baiman.
💡 Key Takeaway: When speed is critical, do not hesitate to call melds to secure 5+ Han. Keeping the hand closed makes it a game-ending finisher.

2. Standard Yaku Compounding with Pure Flush

Depending on tile composition, Pure Flush easily stacks with other standard Yaku to maximize score.

① Chinitsu + Pinfu [Closed: 7 Han]

4 sequences, a valueless pair, and a ryanmen (two-sided) wait combined with a single suit.

2 Man 3 Man 4 Man 4 Man 5 Man 6 Man 6 Man 7 Man 8 Man 8 Man 8 Man 9 Man 9 Man
3 Man

② Chinitsu + Iipeikou (Pure Double Sequence) [Closed: 7 Han]

Including two identical sequences within the single-suit hand.

2 Pin 2 Pin 3 Pin 3 Pin 4 Pin 4 Pin 5 Pin 6 Pin 7 Pin 8 Pin 8 Pin 8 Pin 9 Pin
9 Pin

③ Chinitsu + Tanyao (All Simples) [Open: 6 Han / Closed: 7 Han]

Excluding 1s and 9s entirely, using only 2–8 tiles of one suit. Guarantees 6 Han (Haneman) even when open.

2 Sou 3 Sou 4 Sou 4 Sou 5 Sou 6 Sou 6 Sou 7 Sou 7 Sou 7 Sou 8 Sou 8 Sou 8 Sou
5 Sou

④ Chinitsu + Ittsu (Pure Straight) [Open: 6 Han / Closed: 8 Han]

Completing 123, 456, and 789 sequences within the same suit.

1 Man 2 Man 3 Man 4 Man 5 Man 6 Man 7 Man 8 Man 9 Man 3 Man 3 Man 5 Man 5 Man
5 Man

⑤ Chinitsu + Ryanpeikou (Two Sets of Double Sequences) [Closed: 9 Han]

Containing two distinct sets of double sequences. Automatically yields 9 Han (Baiman).

⑥ Chinitsu + Chiitoitsu (Seven Pairs) [Closed: 8 Han]

Collecting 7 distinct pairs of the same suit: Chinitsu (6 Han) + Chiitoitsu (2 Han) = 8 Han (Baiman).

1 Sou 1 Sou 2 Sou 2 Sou 4 Sou 4 Sou 5 Sou 5 Sou 7 Sou 7 Sou 8 Sou 8 Sou 9 Sou

3. Counted Yakuman (Kazoe Yakuman: 13+ Han)

By combining Chinitsu base value with Ryanpeikou, Tanyao, Pinfu, Riichi, and Tsumo, a hand can reach 13+ Han (Kazoe Yakuman) purely through Yaku combinations, even without Dora tiles.

Pure Combination Kazoe Yakuman (13 Han) Example:

2 Man 2 Man 3 Man 3 Man 4 Man 4 Man 5 Man 5 Man 6 Man 6 Man 7 Man 7 Man 8 Man
8 Man
  • Chinitsu (6 Han): Closed single-suit Man hand
  • Ryanpeikou (3 Han): Two sets of 234 and 678 sequences
  • Tanyao (1 Han): No 1s, 9s, or Honors
  • Pinfu (1 Han): 4 sequences, neutral pair (5 Man), two-sided wait
  • Riichi (1 Han) + Menzen Tsumo (1 Han): Riichi declaration + self-draw win
  • Total: 13 Han ➔ Kazoe Yakuman (Non-dealer: 32,000 pts / Dealer: 48,000 pts)

4. Single-Suit Pure Yakuman Hands

Special shapes that consist of a single suit (looking like Chinitsu at first glance) but qualify as true Yakuman due to unique conditions.

① Chuuren Poutou (Nine Gates) & Pure Nine Gates

A closed single-suit hand forming 111 2345678 999 + any extra tile of the same suit.

Pure Nine Gates (9-sided wait - Double Yakuman):

1 Man 1 Man 1 Man 2 Man 3 Man 4 Man 5 Man 6 Man 7 Man 8 Man 9 Man 9 Man 9 Man
?

4.a Fork in the Road: Chinitsu vs. Chuuren Poutou

When aiming for Nine Gates, slight variations in tenpai shape create a fork in the road where which tile you win on determines whether you score a Yakuman or standard Chinitsu.

Example Tenpai Hand (1122345678999 Man):

1 Man 1 Man 2 Man 2 Man 3 Man 4 Man 5 Man 6 Man 7 Man 8 Man 9 Man 9 Man 9 Man
  • Winning on 1 Man ➔ Chuuren Poutou (Yakuman)
    Drawing 1 Man completes the pure 111 2345678 999 + 2 Man Chuuren pattern.
  • Winning on 2 Man ➔ Chinitsu (Closed 6 Han)
    Evaluated as standard Chinitsu: 11 222 345 678 999.
  • Winning on 3 Man ➔ Chinitsu + Iipeikou + Ittsu (Closed 9 Han / Baiman)
    Forms 123 123 456 789 99: Chinitsu (6 Han) + Iipeikou (1 Han) + Ittsu (2 Han) = 9 Han Baiman.

② Ryuuイーsou (All Green - Pure Bamboo Variation)

Composed entirely of green tiles: 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 Sou without Green Dragons (Hatsu). This creates a single-suit Chinitsu Ryuuイーsou Yakuman.

③ Suuankou (Four Concealed Triplets)

Forming 4 concealed triplets within a single suit. Standard Chinitsu scoring is superseded by Yakuman.

📌 When a Yakuman is achieved, standard Yaku and Han calculations (such as Chinitsu 6 Han) are bypassed, and only Yakuman points are awarded.

5. Table Psychological Defense & Risk Management

Chinitsu is easily telegraphed to opponents through discards and melds. Exploiting this psychological pressure while managing risks is essential.

① Exploiting Table Defense (Bluffing & Wall Control)

  • Restricting Discards: Concentrating on one suit forces opponents to fold and hold back that suit, locking down their hands.
  • Seizing Table Control: Threatening a high-scoring hand deter opponents from declaring Riichi or pushing aggressive attacks.

② Managing the 3 Core Risks of Chinitsu

  • Lower Ron Win Rate: Since opponents defend against your suit, focus on winning by Tsumo rather than Ron.
  • Declining Defensive Power: Calling multiple melds leaves you with few safe tiles, making you vulnerable to enemy counterattacks.
  • Exhausted Tile Supply: Because opponents hoard your suit, remaining wall tiles decrease. Aim for wide multi-waits to maximize availability.
